What’s the difference between Electrolysis and Laser?
Electrolysis is the ONLY FDA approved PERMANENT method of hair removal. Electrolysis is safe and effective on ALL hair colors (including blonde, grey, and red), ALL hair textures (fine, medium, and coarse), and on ALL skin tones (including dark skin). Electrolysis effectively treats hair in all stages of the hair growth cycle (growing phase, transition phase, and resting phase). Laser is FDA approved as hair REDUCTION. Laser attaches to melanin in the hair and therefore is NOT effective on blond, grey, or red hair as there is no melanin present in these hairs. It is also unsafe for darker skin tones as the laser can attach to the melanin in the skin and cause burning, hyperpigmentation (dark spots), or hypopigmentation (white spots). Laser is ONLY effective on hairs in the growing phase of the hair growth cycle as the hair is still attached to the blood supply. Laser is NOT effective on fine or medium hairs or areas that have low density hair growth. In fact, laser has been known to STIMULATE hair growth when used on fine or medium hairs or low-density hair growth areas.
How long will this take?
You didn’t grow your hair overnight, so we can’t get rid of everything in one appointment, either. Electrolysis is progressive and a commitment, and the number of treatments needed vary with each client. Sessions can range from 15 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area being treated. Most body parts take 1-2 years for complete elimination of hair with shorter, less frequent appointments as you progress through treatment. Factors such as hair cycles, quantity of hair, previous hair removal methods, hormones, medications, and genetics influence the treatment plan for each client. The great news? No matter who you are, electrolysis works if you commit to the process!
Will it hurt?
Most clients find electrolysis very tolerable. While sensation varies from person to person, many describe the feeling of electrolysis as a “zap,” pinch, or warming sensation. Some body areas are more sensitive than others, so topical numbing creams, as well as a variety of settings, are available for a more comfortable experience.
Will Electrolysis damage my skin?
Many clients report that their skin IMPROVES after electrolysis since they are able to stop methods that cause irritation, ingrown hairs, and acne. It is normal to see redness and mild swelling after your electrolysis treatment. In most individuals, this will disappear within a few hours. In some circumstances and on certain body areas, electrolysis can cause tiny scabs or crusts to form over the treated follicles. These dots are perfectly normal parts of the healing process and will not leave permanent marks, provided you do not pick or scratch them. An occasional bruise, swelling, tenderness, or temporary hyper-pigmentation may occur
Why are my hairs “growing back” after treatments?
Electrolysis is progressively permanent, which means it’s not a one-and-done procedure.
Hair grows in cycles, so it takes many months for every hair to surface and be treated. The hairs that you can see today on your body are only a fraction of the hairs that are currently growing in that area – especially if you have been waxing and plucking for years.
Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment, but with every treatment, hairs that are not eliminated will grow in thinner and weaker. As your treatment progresses, your appointments will decrease in time and frequency as there are fewer and fewer remaining hairs to treat.
